Wanted: public NRK-webservice for accessing content (Norwegian TV)

Sunday, September 24th, 2006

I want NRK to make a webservice that gives the users the possiblity to access WEB-TV (Nett-TV) content from any application, not just through the NRK-website.

That way users can search and watch content from any device they want, in the way they want it.

There are several great uses for something like this, an example made by NRK is the plug-in for Windows Media Center Edition, where the users can browse and watch the library of content in an easy to use interface. But this is not accessible from any other application than Windows MCE. This is why NRK should make a public webservice that makes users able implement such features into other applications. One example is the open-source project, MediaPortal.

A webservice that any application can query for content would be great.

NRK themselves are saying that they are saying that they are planning such features, but why not open up to the public, and let the creative minds out there make the most out of it? I think it would be very successful.
The videoformat used by NRK is not an open format (Windows Media), but that is another discussion.

NRK, the ball is in your court.
