Blondiner.no is open for business!
September 30th, 2007www.blondiner.no & www.brunetter.no
June 1st, 2007I’m currently developing two new websites, www.blondiner.no & www.brunetter.no.

They share the same php5-class-files and the same database. Right now I’m working on the input-validation part of the system.

If you got some ideas on how to improve that site, please leave your comment below.

Blogmark-plugin for WordPress
October 6th, 2006I’ve created a simple plugin that enables you to show your list of blogmarks directly in your blog. Example:

Instructions:
To install the plugin, unzip the zip archive into the wp-content/plugins directory of your Wordpress installation.
Then open up the Plugins tab of the Wordpress administration interface and click on the Activate link for myBlogmarks.
To generate the list of blogmarks, call the getMyBlogmarks(’your-blogmarks.net-username’, items) function at the point in your template where you would like the blogmarks displayed. Items is the number of blogmarks you are interested in showing.
Example: getMyBlogmarks(’joe’, 10)
NRK API discussion/testing
October 5th, 2006I’ve been in touch with NRK and asked about an API like the one I wrote about a few days ago. They are working on something like this, and they are interested in getting touch with people that can help them discuss/test this API.
So please drop me a line if you are interested in contributing.

October 3rd, 2006SimpleXML testcase
September 27th, 2006Tried out SimpleXML in PHP5, and created this as a testcase. It’s really simple to create something like this with live rss-feeds.
But if one doing something like this on a site with many visitors, you have to fetch the rssfeeds in the background and use a database for storage. For performance-reasons obviously.
Why most of todays CD’s sound like garbage
September 24th, 2006Most of todays CD’s sound like garbage because they are made “hot”. “Hot” means that the CD is supposed to sound as
loud as possible on cheap sound systems. That means squashing the dynamic range of the music.
Bob Speer has written an interesting must-read article about this subject.
Low dynamic range means that the lowest and loudest part of the song are actually quite equally loud. With high dynamic range the difference between the two is much larger.
I have some examples here for you:
a song by Rammstein, released in 2006:

as you can see, almost the entire song contains clipping. this is a very bad mix. Most of todays music looks like this. And it sounds like noise. The sound has no dynamics what so ever.
But there are exceptions:
a song be Norah Jones, released in 2005

a perfect mix. This is a mix where one does take advantage of the available dynamics in the CD-format.
But back when CD was new, the mixing was different:
a song by A-ha, released in 1985:

as you can see there are no clippings, but the mix does not take advantage of the large dynamic range of the CD.

September 24th, 2006Merlin D. Mann written an excellent ‘tutorial’ on how to handle e-mail efficiently: The inbox makeover
It has changed how I handle my e-mail. I strongly recommend you to read the article.
